Malcolm Quinn Silver-Van Meter is a filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor working in Los Angeles, Vermont, and New York City.

The proud son of two schoolteachers, Malcolm grew up in Vermont’s rural Upper Valley, where he enjoys running, skiing, and farming.

His short documentary “The Balloonist” premiered on Vermont PBS in October 2023. He is currently developing his follow-up documentary project. He is in post-production on “December 1964,” a short film based on a story from his grandfather, supported by NYC-based nonprofit Inwood Art Works; and “Heartbreak on Murray Hill,” a coming-of-age short film set in 1950s Manhattan. “Heartbreak” shot onstage at Kaufman Astoria Studios, and on location around the greater New York City area.

In 2021, he received a Screenwriting Grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for his feature-length script Vemork. In July 2022, Vemork was one of six scripts across the country nominated for the Sloan Student Grand Jury Prize (and was the sole nominee written by an undergrad). The story, which takes place in occupied Norway during World War II, was influenced by Malcolm’s time working as a production assistant on Matthew Heineman’s documentary Retrograde, which details the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. Vemork is being expanded into a miniseries, with the hope of a European/American co-production. Following Retrograde, Malcolm worked on Heineman’s follow-up film American Symphony, about Jon Batiste’s music and his relationship with his wife, Suleika Jaouad, as she fights leukemia.

As an actor, Silver-Van Meter recently appeared alongside Alan Gelfant in a production of Sam Shepard’s Pulitzer-winning Buried Child, directed by Ray Chapin at the Parish Players. Last year, he narrated the audiobook for Kenneth M. Cadow’s National Book Award-nominated Gather for Spotify Audiobooks. Previously, Malcolm starred as Robbie in Humanized, a television pilot written by Gabe Guimaraes and directed by Colin Sevely-Ortiz. In 2023, Humanized won Best Independent Pilot (Drama) at SeriesFest and the Audience Award for Best Episodic at NFFTY.
